in the end, everything comes back to compassion…..

We will focus on Bharatanatyam, Kalaripayattu, drawing, empathy, compassion, kinesthesia. Through research and the running of participatory drawing workshops (in India and UK) we will encourage collaboration to inform new artwork development, for exhibition. Cross-cultural dialogue inspires our practice and the exchange process will be a transformative experience. We will observe dance and make gestural drawings, during 2018 at Darpana Academy of Performing Arts. Each of the bodily movements and gesture’s will inspire the making of new works on paper. During the proposed visits to Ahmedabad, we will learn from artist and activist on empowerment Dr Mallika Sarabhai. The research and development time will provide a platform for creating and sharing opportunities. This will feed our inspiration for new artwork production, high profile exhibition and effective workshop delivery. The presentations will increase awareness in the project, inspiring contributions from multi-cultural participants. We wish to undertake research specifically at Darpana Academy of Performing Arts, Ahmedabad to build on earlier INTACH research 2015-2016 and ‘Something Useful Residency’ 2016. The Academy is grounded on principles which underpin the Arts and engagement, as such is the optimal environment for interdisciplinary research into empathic connection.
