child’s eye view

We have been running a collagraph workshop for year 7 pupils at a Technology School. We worked together in the farm to make collections of found materials. Children searched for symmetry in the school grounds and collected their antennae, heads, main bodies and wings. It was a delight to hear the children shout out when they'd discovered something interesting. We smelt herbs and identifies plants. Arms full of plant materials we took to the etching press. Sadly, the press hasn't been used in years, but together the children and I got it up and running again! The pupils made their relief prints and collaged them into 3D artworks. Lastly, each child gave their new imaginary bug a name. My favourite was 'Geoff'.
